Participants will learn 5 important strategies to create strong reading, as well as 5 critical techniques to improve writing habits. Skill areas will include methods to support the development of oral language, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics. Hanna will highlight the importance of correct letter formation to reduce cognitive load. They will also share engaging activities to motivate reluctant writers, and will describe various types of reading material that will catch the attention of every learner. About the Presenter:
Since 2008 Hanna Stroud has operated a private tutoring and consulting company, My Literacy Space, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They provide one-on-one tutoring sessions specializing in literacy for learners from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Hanna also provides professional development, such as Reading with TLC training, for school boards and homeschool families, highlighting literacy topics and leading picture book conversations. As a kidlit reviewer, Hanna shares their knowledge of picture books that can be used as literacy mentor texts in all learning spaces and they are passionate about sharing picture books where all children find representation for themselves, their families, and their communities.
