Presenter:  Nicole Chick

Description:

How should Pre-K and Kindergarten educators and clinicians approach alphabet instruction? Should the focus be on letter names, letter sounds, or both? What is the most effective sequence for introducing letters, and how do mnemonic strategies impact learning?

Seasoned literacy expert, Nicole Chick, will explore current research on alphabet instruction, including best practices for teaching letter recognition and sound-symbol relationships. She will also discuss which letters and sounds tend to be more challenging for young learners and how to support all students in building a strong foundation for early reading success. Attendees will leave with evidence-based strategies and practical tools to enhance their play-based alphabet instruction. This session is beneficial for anyone working with Pre-K and Kindergarten students as well as those serving older students who are struggling to develop their alphabet skills.
