Presenter:  Dr. Laurie Summer

Description:
Attention SLPs! In alignment with ASHA’s updated requirements for at least 2 hours of professional development in areas such as culturally responsive practice, inclusion, and diversity, we are excited to offer a valuable upcoming webinar designed to support your growth in these critical areas.

This session will guide speech-language pathologists in examining their mindsets around disability. Our presenter will explore the contrast between a deficit-based mindset and one that views difference as a source of strength, equity, and learning. Through reflection and critical discussion of common assumptions, attendees will be encouraged to reimagine their roles—whether working in schools or private practice.

To ensure practical relevance, the webinar will connect these concepts to everyday professional activities, including assessment, therapy, family engagement, and collaboration with teachers and team members.

Key topics will include:

  • Strategies for making evaluations more inclusive and equitable

  • Rethinking assessment tools and practices

  • Centering student and family voices in both assessment and therapy

  • Co-constructing therapy goals with students

  • Integrating joy, emotion, and embodied learning into sessions

By the end of the session, participants will be equipped to build more inclusive, identity-affirming practices and develop a contextualized understanding of their students’ experiences, identities, strengths, needs, and communities.

Don't miss this important opportunity to deepen your practice and meet your professional development goals in a meaningful way!
