This timely session will provide you with an overview of reading automaticity and fluency development in both typical and atypical (dyslexic) readers.  Our seasoned presenter will show you what to look for when diagnosing a reading fluency problem and will provide you with specific strategies on how best to target those reading fluency problems.  Marianne will also speak to fluency development in dyslexic readers and the impact of Rapid Naming Deficits on reading fluency development.  Marianne will go through the instructional practices that are proven to produce positive outcomes for reading automaticity and fluency.  She will also provide ideas for improving reading fluency within online learning contexts and needs.

 Presenter Bio:  

Marianne Nice is a speech-language pathologist and reading specialist with 20 years experience in K-12 education.  Marianne specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of dyslexia and related literacy disorders. She regularly provides professional development and consultation to school systems both locally and nationally.  During the COVID-19 pandemic, Marianne has provided over 20 hours per week working with students diagnosed with dyslexia.  She consults to school districts, as well, about delivering powerful online instruction.  Marianne is formerly a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of New Hampshire’s Speech-Language Pathology program, teaching a course in language and literacy disorders. She has been an eight-time speaker at the ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) National Convention and recently spoke at the 2019 International Dyslexia Association’s National Convention.  She was recently asked by IDA to provide a national training on teaching structured literacy online.  Marianne lives in southern New Hampshire with her husband, also a teacher, and her two children ages 16 and 13. 

CREDITS: Whether you watch live or view the recording, this training offers 2 cont. ed. hours for all, and Certificate Maintenance Hours (CMHs) for Speech Language Pathologists. ASHA accepts CMHs towards the 30 hours needed for re-certification.
