Description:
Phonological awareness is a vital foundation in learning to read and write. With advances in neuroimaging, science has established deeper understandings of these important phonological foundations. This session will describe the PHacts of phonological skill development, the most valuable predictive skills across a range of ages, and a PHew strategies to help students develop these skills.

Gain a deeper understanding of the interconnected relationship among phonological and phonemic awareness, phonological processing, phonological sensitivity, phonological representation, and phonics. Confirm your understanding of the developmental sequences and age expectations for phonological and phonemic awareness across the earliest grades. Add a few research-based routines and strategies for instruction and intervention to your tool bag.

Presenter Bio:
Dr. Lucy Hart Paulson, Ed.D., CCC-SLP, is a literacy specialist and speech-language pathologist with many years of experience working with young children, their families and their teachers in public school, clinic, and university settings. Lucy presents a broad-based perspective blending areas of language and literacy together resulting in effective, appropriate, and engaging language-based literacy instruction and
intervention for all children. She has provided professional development for a variety of audiences across the United States and internationally. Lucy is the lead author of the Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) for Early Childhood Educators, 2 nd Edition, a new edition of Good Talking Words, a social communication skills program for young children, and also for Building Early Literacy and Language Skills, a resource and activity guide for young children.

CREDITS: Whether you watch live or view the recording, this training offers 2 cont. ed. hours for all, and Certificate Maintenance Hours (CMHs) for Speech Language Pathologists. ASHA accepts CMHs towards the 30 hours needed for re-certification.
