The Science of Reading, as defined by The Reading League, is an interdisciplinary
body of scientifically-based research about reading and issues related to reading and
writing.  Over the past few decades, research has focused on several areas, including
cognitive and developmental psychology, communication sciences, education,
implementation science, linguistics, and neuroscience. This has culminated in a large
body of scientific evidence that conclusively provides information on best instructional practices for teaching reading. Whether you are an administrator, classroom teacher, reading specialist, special education teacher, speech language pathologist, tutor, parent, or anyone invested in gaining the most up-to-date information on the science of reading, this webinar is for you.

Join Hanna Stroud as she shares the important tenets of structured literacy, the building blocks of reading, and strategies to build strong readers and spellers.  The goal of this webinar is to provide research-based information and to dig deeper into frequently asked questions related to the topic of literacy such as:
What skills do children need to have to be proficient readers and spellers?

Why are these skills important?
How does the brain learn to read?
When are children ready to learn to read?
Where do I begin?

Similar to a recipe needed for successful food preparation, there is a proven, clear-cut
recipe for successful reading instruction. This includes using a specific scope and
sequence and explicit methods that are based upon knowledge of the critical skills
needed to become expert readers and spellers.  Sign up to learn about the best recipe for teaching reading!

Participants will receive a full PDF of the webinar notes which includes direct links to
websites, resource books, and activities to support the content shared in the webinar.
