Description:
All of us have a built in capacity to meet challenges and accomplish goals through the use of high-level cognitive functions called executive skills.  These are skills that help us decide what activities or tasks we will pay attention to and which ones we will choose to do.  Our executive functions allow us to organize our behavior over time and override immediate demands in favor of long term goals.

Weak executive functions (EF), often experienced by children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) will make it more difficult to learn and perform appropriately in the classroom. This workshop will offer background information on the nature of the EF, what roles they play, how they manifest in the classroom, as well as what happens when executive functions are disrupted.  We will conclude with a presentation of strategies that can be successfully used and taught in the classroom to facilitate learning for children with weak EF.
