The Lively Letters program is aligned with the Science of Reading and has been clinically proven to simultaneously train phonemic awareness, speech production, and phonics skills since 1990. Have fun while learning how to implement the program that’s as powerful as it is fun. In just 6.5 hours, get trained to boost your students’ literacy skills in a way that's fun and engaging! This training is geared for those who work with general ed. students in grades PreK – 2, as well as those working with struggling students of all ages, including students with speech and language deficits, students with reading disorders such as dyslexia, and those learning English as a second language. In this training you will learn how to implement the unique strategies from the Lively Letters program, created by Nancy Telian, MS, CCC-SLP, and the Sight Words You Can See program by Sight Words You Can See.

Lively Letters uses a speech-to-print approach for training letter sounds, embedding colorful mnemonic pictures that elicit the speech sounds directly into the letter shapes. Incorporating mouth cues, hand cues, music, and comical stories, the program quickly makes long lasting impressions and then develops phonemic awareness and phonics skills further by using these manipulatives in word play activities. Mnemonic strategies also help students progress through the multisyllable word level. Sight Words You Can See is a creative approach to help students remember the spelling, pronunciation, and meaning of 86 challenging high frequency words, or "heart words."  Relying on learned phonics skills and orthographic mapping, this program uses imagery and mnemonic cues, along with humorous stories, to help students quickly develop a sight word bank that will help them move beyond phonetically controlled text and into the richer world of literature.

Delivered in an engaging, easy-going manner with a sense of humor, this training is enjoyed by all participants and has consistently received rave reviews. Participants will receive practical research-based program strategies with direct instruction, as well as video demonstrations of the program in use. Attendees also receive hands-on practice sessions. A substantial handout and sample letter pictures for practice sessions are provided. While viewing, participants can submit questions that are answered via email and can also register for a Free Live Q and A Webinars that are offered on a monthly basis. CREDITS/ASHA CEUs:  Participants will receive certificates for 6.5 cont. ed. hours after fully attending the training and completing the assessment.  SLPs can use these certificates as certification maintenance hours (CMHs) that are accepted by ASHA for recertification. SLPs can also opt to pay the $25 processing fee to earn official ASHA CEUs. This option will be available in a pop-up when this recording is added to the shopping cart. Those purchasing the ASHA CEU option will have their information sent to ASHA at the end of each month for processing.

Learner Outcomes:

As a result of this activity, the participant will be able to:

- identify ways in which phonemic awareness, phonics, and speech production skills can be taught simultaneously

- utilize oral kinesthetic cueing, hand cues, mnemonically embedded letter pictures, music, and stories to train the letter sound associations

- demonstrate the use of specific strategies to develop sound blending, segmentation, and manipulation for the development of high level phonemic awareness skills

- demonstrate the use of explicit strategies to train the ability to decode (read) and encode (spell) words of increasing lengths, from CVC through multisyllable level
