Description

Engaging struggling students can be a challenging and frustrating endeavor for teachers and parents alike. Join us to hear nationally renowned speaker and consultant, Dr. Melissa Orkin, present practical, research-based strategies that foster engagement, persistence, and intrinsic motivation among elementary and middle school students who struggling in reading and other academic areas.

Presenter Bio:  Dr. Melissa Orkin

Melissa Orkin, Ph. D. is a Developmental Psychologist who specializes in learning disabilities and achievement motivation. Dr. Orkin has broad experience directing specialized literacy programs at Tufts and Northeastern University; working as a reading teacher in the classroom, and managing assessments in clinical settings. Dr. Orkin instructs on learning disabilities at Tufts University, and has also lectured on reading disabilities at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She contributes to publications on a variety of educational topics including literacy development and executive function skills. Dr. Orkin regularly provides professional development workshops and consults with public and private schools on best practices for students with learning disabilities. Currently, Dr. Orkin is an educational consultant with Crafting Minds, craftingmindgroups.com.

CREDITS: This training offers 2 cont. ed. hours for all, and Certificate Maintenance Hours (CMHs) for Speech Language Pathologists. ASHA accepts CMHs towards the 30 hours needed for re-certification.
