- This product offers students the much needed practice decoding (reading) to develop fluency (accuracy and speed) at the single word level. These word cards are perfect for teachers and parents who are tired of creating their own word lists and handwriting flashcards to take phonics skills to the level of automaticity. Featuring a structured and sequential scope and sequence, these word cards can supplement the Reading with TLC Lively Letters program, or any structured phonics programs, including those that follow the Orton Gillingham approach.
- Provides opportunities for students to utilize and build orthographic mapping skills, helping them to focus on the letters and sounds in the words. Unlike most other word card products, this set also includes some nonsense words. For students who tend to guess, relying inefficiently on words they’ve already learned by sight, the inclusion of nonsense words helps students to attend to the letters and letter patterns instead of guessing.
- Set Two includes 1300 real and nonsense words printed onto 130 colored card stock sheets with 10 words on each sheet to be cut into word cards. The word levels in this set include words with double and triple consonant blends (CCVCC through CCCVCCC), short and long vowels, vowel digraphs, r-controlled vowels, and hard / soft “c” and “g.”
- Educators could have students read words directly from the uncut card sheets as word lists. Most choose to cut the sheets into flashcards, sorting them by word type, and using them in various games and activities to make lessons more engaging while strengthening fluency skills. Fast, accurate reading of words has been shown to greatly improve reading fluency and reading comprehension, as proven in the Science of Reading.
Educators and parents can use these word cards to further develop phonemic awareness, phonics, and reading fluency skills. This is a popular supplement of the Lively Letters program that greatly improves reading skills in 6-8 weeks with multisensory methods and materials for general ed. and struggling readers, including dyslexic and EL students. The program has been used by over 80,000 educators and 15 million students worldwide since 1990. It is aligned with the Science of Reading.
