DESCRIPTION:

Thousands have been asking for a session on how to use the evidence-based program, Lively Letters, to specifically train speech production skills as the primary objective. As phonemic awareness and phonics skills are simultaneously developed, many clinicians and educators have been using the Lively Letters pictures, mouth/ hand cues, and letter sound stories to specifically target articulation skills.

This session will be presented by two highly regarded TLC National Trainers who are also veteran, practicing speech language pathologists. You’ll get to see and hear first-hand how the Lively Letters program has been used successfully for many years to work on speech production.  The presenters will share how to adjust the typical Lively Letters program delivery to specifically target speech (with a side benefit of also indirectly targeting phonemic awareness and phonics). Multi-linguistic approaches that target multiple skill areas are highly recognized in the research as the most effective types of approaches for struggling students of all ages. Marianne and Amy will provide direction for integrating multiple literacy and speech/language targets within articulation sessions. A very brief overview of how the Lively Letters program works will be included in the beginning of this session for those who are new to this approach. Research findings will be shared briefly, but the majority of this session will feature an abundance of practical strategies that can be effectively applied, in person or online, using core Lively Letters materials to improve speech production skills. Whether your students have mild, moderate, or severe articulation issues such as apraxia of speech, you will find techniques that fit right in with what you may already be doing to address speech production skills

The Lively Letters program, clinically proven to simultaneously and quickly yield dramatic improvements in phonemic awareness and phonemic awareness, has also been used successfully since 1990 to improve speech production skills. Developed by speech language pathologist, Nancy Telian, its features include engaging and colorfully embedded pictures within letters as comical characters, hand/mouth cues, and stories that depict what the mouth is doing when making the sounds. Techniques from the program also address difficulty pronouncing words with sounds in various positions, as well as sequencing errors, such as omissions, additions, substitutions, and reversals in words, in particular those with consonant blends. Students learn to use the visual cues from the Lively Letters mnemonic pictures, and eventually, plain letters, while they are reading and spelling, as visual cues for speech. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to learn from two Lively Letters masters from the fields of speech language pathology and literacy. It’s great if you’ve been trained already, but you do not need to have been trained in Lively Letters to attend and benefit from many of the techniques that will be shared in this exciting new session.
