Description:
You've helped your students develop their phonemic awareness and phonics skills and they can read in phonetically controlled books, but are they struggling with high frequency words that have irregular or infrequent spelling patterns? These challenging words, such as "come," "have," and "want," are frequently referred to as "heart words." Students don't only need to be able to recognize the tricky spelling patterns in those words, but most students also need some memory tricks, or mnemonics, to help them link the irregular spelling pattern to the pronunciation of the word, and to the meaning of the word.
The New Generation Sight Words You Can See program does just that with humorous mnemonic stories and images drawn in and around 86 of the most challenging abstract words listed in the Dolch sight word list.
Come see how and why these creative strategies quickly help students build a strong sight word bank that will help them move beyond phonetically controlled books into the wide world of richer literature!
This overview will include the research/rationale for using these methods, program implementation guidance, demonstrations and time to have your questions answered by the program author, Penny Castagnozzi.
Even if you have been using Sight Words You Can See, join us to check out the important helpful changes we've included in the New Generation version! During the training you can type in your questions and get them answered promptly by email.
